With the new IR100 multiple units, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) are setting another milestone in modern long-distance rail travel. The four-car double-decker trains form part of the fleet originally developed by Bombardier Transportation and now maintained by Alstom. Measuring around 100 metres in length and with a top speed of 200 km/h, they combine high operational efficiency with the SBB's characteristic standards of comfort, punctuality and reliability. The designation IR100 refers to the approximately 100-metre-long variant, which was specially designed for heavily used InterRegio services.
