The Re 474 Class of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB Cargo) is a powerful multi-system electric locomotive for international freight transport. Built by Siemens, it is based on the EuroSprinter platform (type ES64F4) and entered service in 2005.
Designed for cross-border service between Switzerland and Italy, the Re 474 is compatible with both the Swiss AC system (15 kV, 16.7 Hz) and the Italian DC system (3 kV), making it ideally suited to through freight services across the Alps.
Locomotive 474 009-8 is representative of this series and exemplifies the growing internationalisation of rail freight transport in the Alpine region.
