The IORE is considered one of the most powerful electric locomotives in the world. With a power output of more than 10 megawatts, the twelve-axle, nearly 46-metre-long double locomotive IORE from the company Adtranz (now Bombardier Transportation) took iron ore transport on the 536-kilometre railway line between Kiruna, Lula and Narvik to the next level. By 2014, a total of 17 machines of this class had been put into operation, drastically reducing transport costs thanks to higher speeds and greater hauling capacity.
