The BB 15000 is a French electric locomotive series which can be used on the AC network (25 kV 50 Hz). The design of the locomotives with the so-called "nez cassé" ("broken nose") comes from the hand of Frenchman Paul Arzens, who was responsible for the design of several SNCF locomotives at the time. From 1971 until 1976, Alstom built a total of 65 locomotives. The locomotives were the first French mainline locomotives with two driver's cabs and only one pantograph and were the last SNCF electric locomotives to be designed for the AC system only.
