The CC 72000 was considered the most powerful diesel locomotive in the SNCF fleet when it debuted on the rails in 1967. With its diesel-electric drive, the class was suited to both high-speed operation and the haulage of heavy loads. For over 40 years, the SNCF used the locomotives in front of express trains - for example, between Lyon and Marseille or Paris and Basel - and in front of heavy goods trains.
