To replace the legendary "Crocodiles", the SBB began procuring several batches totalling 120 Ae 6/6 locomotives from 1952 onwards for use on the Gotthard route. Each locomotive bore the coat of arms of a canton, a cantonal capital, or a major Swiss city.
The city locomotive 11485 "Thun" entered service on 11 March 1965. The locomotive was given its red livery in 1996. With the 2012 timetable change, SBB Cargo took the Ae 6/6 (Ae 610) fleet out of service. In March 2013, locomotive 11485 "Thun" was scrapped.
