The BB 22200 is a French electric locomotive class designed for use on both SNCF's 1.5 kV DC electrified network and its 25 kV 50 Hz AC electrified network. The locomotives' design, featuring the so-called "nez cassé" (broken nose), was created by the Frenchman Paul Arzens, who was responsible for several SNCF locomotive designs at the time. Between 1976 and 1986, Alstom built a total of 205 locomotives across six production batches.
From 1999 onwards, the locomotives were allocated to the various business divisions. Those assigned to the freight division received the grey/green/white FRET livery.
