The Re 4/4 II are universal locomotives and as a result, can haul both passenger and goods trains. They usually haul heavy trains in double traction with a Re 6/6. SBB acquired 277 units of the Re 4/4 II between 1964 and 1985, making it their largest traction unit series ever. With an output of 4.700 kW, the locomotive reaches a top speed of 140 km/h.
