In April 2023, CPKC Railway became the first single line-haul railway directly connecting Canada, the U.S., and Mexico with 20,000 miles of track. To mark the merger's first anniversary, it launched a celebratory steam tour with a restored Royal Hudson no. 2816, displayed alongside newly branded CPKC diesel locomotive 9375 in Kansas City. A second unit, KCS 4805, was unveiled in late May 2024.
Our Rivet Counter™ series model renders numerous variations of cabs, dynamic brakes, doors, grilles, trucks, etc between the two road numbers. We’ve also incorporated LED lighting effects including front, rear, and side walkway lights; ground lights; printed and lighted number boards; and ditch lights. CPKC 9375 also features ditch lights on the long hood.

The merger of Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) and Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) into what is now known as Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) created the first-ever single-line-haul railway that directly connects Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
In March 2021, CP proposed buying KCS for $25 billion. The idea was to create a new, super-efficient railway system that would make moving goods across North America easier. Not long after CP’s offer, Canadian National Railway (CN) jumped in with a higher bid of $33.6 billion. This started a bidding war between the two Canadian rail giants.
Both merger proposals required the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB) approval. The regulatory scrutiny focused on potential anti-competitive effects and the overall benefits of the merger for North American trade and transportation networks. After an intense review, the STB approved CP’s updated proposal in December 2022, and by April 14, 2023, the merger was finalized, creating CPKC.
CPKC's combined network spans approximately 20,000 miles of rail, linking major economic hubs across North America. Key cities connected by this network include Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Monterrey, and Mexico City. CPKC also owns a 50% stake in the Panama Canal Railway, a 47-mile standard gauge railroad that parallels the vital shipping route. It handles both freight and passengers.
To celebrate the first anniversary of the merger, CPKC announced the Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour with 7 stops between Calgary and Mexico City. The train was pulled by Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson no. 2816, a Montreal-built 1930 vintage steam locomotive meticulously restored in 2001 and 2023, respectively. Together with a pair of F Units, the train was witnessed by tens of thousands as it made its way across the CPKC network.
On May 18th, steam engine 2816 and the first CPKC-branded diesel locomotive were publicly displayed at Kansas City’s historic Union Station. The diesel, formerly Canadian Pacific no. 9375, was repainted near Kansas City at Mid-America Car in a new livery designed and approved by company employees. This livery, featuring CP red, yellow, and black also includes the Canadian, USA, and Mexican flags beneath the cab side windows.
On May 23, 2024, Kansas City Southern ES44AC no. 4805 was unveiled in CPKC’s new scheme, making it the first former “Southern Belle” adorned in the livery. It too is sublettered for its original owner – KCS – a practice that will likely continue for accounting purposes as CPKC integrates and manages its locomotive fleet, now exceeding 2,300 units.
