The class E 41/141 locomotives were first delivered in 1956 for light mixed service on main and branch lines. They were the only class in the standard locomotive program to feature a rear derailleur on the low-voltage side of the transformer. The rear derailleur made a characteristic noise that, in addition to the large jumps in traction force, resulted in the nickname "firecracker".
