The unit passenger train tender locomotives of the class 64 were developed by the German State Railway Company (DRG) from 1926 onwards. On July 1, 1950 exactly 129 locomotives were listed in the maintenance fleet of the DR.
64 1455 were handed over from the Jerichow depot to the Salzwedel depot in 1972. There it was used in front of special trains for the farewell trips of 24 009 and 37 1009, which both locomotives hauled together.
