Until 1972, they were predominantly used to replace locomotive-hauled TEE trains. Meals and drinks were prepared in a specially fitted on-board galley and, as there was no restaurant area, were served directly to passengers at their seats. After their service as TEE trains, the trains were converted: the kitchen was removed, and seats were fitted in its place, which is why the designation was changed to ALn 448\/460.
