These were a slightly modified variant of the E 499.1 class of the Czechoslovak State Railways (CSD).\u003cbr\u003eFor use on the Centralna Magistrala Kolejowa line between Warsaw and Kraków\/Katowice - which was built from 1971 onwards - the EU05 locomotives were modified at the Gdańsk repair depot between 1973 and 1977 by altering the gear ratio to achieve a top speed of 160 km\/h.
