LEW had already developed this type for export. Built in three batches between 1981 and 1983, the locomotives were equipped with the proven 1,000 hp engine and a gearbox with a modified gear ratio, similar to that fitted to the first V 100 locomotives. As a result, the maximum speed was limited to 65 km\/h. A ballast weight was fitted in place of the steam-heating boiler.
