The CSD Classes ES 499.1 and 499.2 provided a suitable basis. However, the German 15 kV\/16⅔ Hz electrical system represented new territory. The contract comprised 15 Class 372 locomotives for ČSD and 20 Class 230 locomotives for the DR.\u003cbr\u003eThe universal locomotives were used for passenger and freight services. With an hourly output of 3,260 kW, they reached a top speed of 120 km\/h.
