By 1923, German factories alone had built more than 3,700 examples of this versatile, triple-coupled locomotive. The steam locomotive, later designated Class 38 10-40, had an output of 880 kW, weighed approximately 130 t including the tender with full supplies, and was authorised to travel at 100 km\/h forwards and 50 km\/h in reverse.\u003cbr\u003eRepainting the DRG's large locomotive fleet in the new standard black-and-red livery naturally took time.
