The DR retained the original design, featuring the large Wagner smoke deflectors and the air and feed pumps in the smoke box recesses, after the Second World War. The DB, by contrast, gradually relocated them to the centre of the locomotive, giving the driver a better view of the track. Almost simultaneously, it replaced the large smoke deflectors with Witte-type ones and modified the majority of the running plates.\u003cbr\u003eThe first production batches were fitted with leading wheels 800 mm in diameter and were approved for 120 km\/h. From locomotive 01 102 onwards, they were fitted with 1,000 mm leading wheels and reinforced brakes, increasing the approved maximum speed to 130 km\/h.\u003cbr\u003eUntil 1939, the locomotives were fitted with riveted tenders of the 2‘2‘ T 32 type.
