Description
This detailed, ready-to-run Atlas Master(R) ACF/REA Steel Express Reefer is based on the 500 cars ordered by the Railway Express Agency in 1947. REA ordered these cars from American Car & Foundry (ACF) to help handle increased express and parcel traffic. During the same time period, Atlantic Coast Line purchased 50. These cars were added to the front of passenger trains traveling coast-to-coast on all major railroads. The new steel express cars were of welded construction and featured a new high speed truck design. They were able to carry both refrigerated loads as well as parcel loads due to their collapsible ice bunkers that were stored away when not in use. The Atlas model features welded sides, 3/3 improved Dreadnaught ends, an arched roof, separate ladders and grab irons, a fully detailed underframe, steam, air and signal hoses; coupler cut levers and accurate decoration. It's equipped with AccuMate(R) magnetic knuckle couplers, appropriate trucks with free-rolling metal wheels. The ACF/REA Steel Express Reefer is one of many Atlas HO Scale passenger car models.
