The locomotives had their front noses chopped along with many other appearance details change. The later rebuilds would receive upgraded 645 power assemblies. The rebuild program lasted until 1988 and ushered in the plain CP Rail red scheme. Starting in 1993, CP converted various end-cab switchers to “daughter” units, or slugs, by decommissioning or removing the prime mover (replacing it with ballast to return the unit to its operating weight) and drawing power for the traction motors from GP9u “mother” units using cables that were semi-permanently connected between the units. All of the mother units were drawn from the 1500/1600 series of GP9u units. ✅First ever accurate model in plastic - often imitated, never exact! ✅ Long service lives, 1980s+, all throughout Canada and the US ✅ Powered slug with traction motor sounds and flashing beacons The Rapido Trains HO Scale CP Chop Nose GP9u locomotive features:

Heavy diecast frame with super detailed piping and traction cables

Detailed Blomberg trucks (Later series have rotating bearing caps)

Traction motor details on gearboxWorking track lights, class lights, control stand lights

Metal side handrails

Working ditch lights on prototypically appropriate road numbers

Front and rear plows, plates or footboards on appropriate road numbers

The Rapido Trains HO Scale CP Chop Nose GP9u Slug features:

Heavy diecast frame

Metal handrails

Removed exhaust stacks

Full lighting and flashing beacons

Both models will have: DC/Silent (21-pin DCC Ready) or DCC/ESU LokSound

Ever experience a loss of power? With the conclusion of World War II and the shift towards increased commuting from the newly established suburbs and downtown jobs, railroads were looking for ways to replace their fleets with modern equipment following the war. With the need to haul more passengers per car, and with the length of cars maxed out, Pullman and Budd developed what would quickly be called the “gallery car.” Using a standard passenger car chassis design, the height of the car was extended to the maximum clearance permitted and cantilevered walkways were placed above the standard passenger car (similar to luggage racks) with additional seating added on an upper level. The open space between the upper levels allowed a single conductor to check all tickets, and also gave the cars their nickname - The Gallery Car. With wide center doors and stairs to each of the 4 rows of gallery seating, these cars proved immensely popular in carrying more passengers and reducing loading time at stations. The first examples of these cars built by Budd would be delivered to the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad in 1950 with an order of 30 coaches. The first cab cars would be developed for the Milwaukee Road with an order of 8 (along with 32 regular coaches) in 1961. Over 350 cars in total would be built by Budd, with the final examples rolling off the line in 1978. Since then other manufacturers have continued to use the overall concept of the gallery car for the design and construction of new vehicles, some of which have displaced many of the earliest cars built by Budd as well as Pullman. Ballast! A commodity that is rarely discussed yet plays a pivotal part in the upkeep of any railroad’s infrastructure. Many railroads simply used older open-top hoppers to carry and “dump” ballast along their right-of-ways. In the mid-1970s, National Steel Car (NSC) designed and developed a welded open-top hopper specifically for ballast service, complete with four bottom chutes to spread the rocks along the rails. CN and CP purchased these cars in volumes, both directly and under the 1978 Government of Canada Branch Line Rehabilitation Program. Fleet numbers were also an identifier of these cars as well as their Branch Line Rehabilitation stencil and many continue to wear those to this day. Similar cars could be found on many American roads, wearing a wide variety of paint schemes and graphics. We even included three generic colours for you to make into your freelance road or another railroad that used these cars! From the start of production in 1936 nearly 94,000 cars were built for 64 railroads to variations of this design. Through various secondhand owners, rebuilds and upgrades they continued in service well into the 1980s. At the core of the 1937 AAR boxcar was a body that was 40’-6” long and 10’-0” high inside. Over the years the design of the ends changed. Ends commonly used on early cars used a “Z”-shaped inside corner post, covered by an end with squared off corners. Later cars featured a “W”-shaped inside corner post which externally was covered by an end with rounded corners. Additional types of ends were also employed, most notably by Canadian railroads. In fact, CN and CP accounted for more than 28,000 of these cars! Roofs also varied from group to group, with the Murphy raised panel roof being the most common. However, many cars were also built with Viking and flat panel roofs as well. Other hardware variations included doors, ladders, running boards, brake wheels and trucks. Rapido’s HO model includes numerous parts to model the most possible combinations. Our cars include square and round post ends (with correct sides) as well as Canadian NSC-2 and 5/5 rib ends. We’ve made Murphy raised panel, flat panel and Viking roof with either wood or phot-etched steel running boards in multiple patterns. Access to the roof is by seven or eight rung ladders. Canadian cars include ladders with integral sill steps. Youngstown and Superior 6’ doors are available, as are multiple styles of brake wheels and housings. Additional groups of cars were built with just minor changes in construction, primarily on the underframe. Over their long service lives many were assigned to pulpwood loading, and many more were given extended height sides for use in woodchip and beet loading. Between 1966 and 1968 groups of these cars were renumbered into the 58250-58749 series. Some cars lasted into the BN era, though it is unlikely that many got more than a patch out paint job at this late date. The last cars were removed from service in 1982, although some still soldiered on in BN work service. In addition to Rapido’s offering of the standard gondola, the NPRHA has commissioned a unique model of the extended height woodchip cars. They are also offering exclusive additional car numbers on the standard gondolas so that you can round out your fleet! Go to https://store.nprha.org/ for full details. NOW RELAUNCHED! The Pressed Steel Car Company built five hundred 41’-6” drop bottom gondolas for the Northern Pacific in 1940. Numbered in the 50000-50499 series these cars were used in general service on the NP, in particular coal and ore service. Please welcome the AutoFlood III rapid discharge hopper car for another run with awesome schemes! Beginning production in 2004, the all-aluminum body prototype has been produced in the thousands and has traversed all over North America. With millions of tons of coal per year being mined and hauled out of various locations across the country, you would be hard pressed to not have seen one of these prototype cars in a modern day coal train. This 4200 cubic foot, exterior post prototype (not to be confused with other prototype exterior post or interior post models) is primarily used as a rapid discharge car which can unload the payload in a matter of seconds via the bottom bay doors. However, the car can also be equipped with rotary couplers, as indicated by the color blocks on the end of the car, for either rotary or bottom discharge unloading based on the infrastructure at the final destination The AutoFlood III Coal Hopper features:

Die-cast frame and floor for optimum car weight

Full interior rivet and K-member details

Super-detailed end cages including separate air and brake piping

Barber S-2 100-ton trucks with metal wheels

Hopper bays feature highly-detailed outlet gates

Etched, see-through end cross-over platforms

Full end detail, including uncoupling levers

Separate grab irons installed at the factory

Accurate paint and lettering

Removable coal load included

Multiple road numbers available for each scheme

Available in singles or multi-packs*

Multi-packs boxed for individual sale

NOW RELAUNCHED! Whenever you see a general merchandise freight pass by you, there’s a high probability that you will see at least four or more centerbeams mixed in. Have you taken notice of the roadnames/ownership of those cars? Centerbeams are unique in that they are owned by large Class I railroads, leasing companies and smaller shortlines. The wood industry is so lucrative that even our new run of the HO Scale 73’ NSC Centerbeam is no stranger to a wide variety of roadnames! The Rapido Trains N Scale 73’ NSC Centerbeam Locomotive features:

Two top truss configurations; early Z pattern and standard closed pattern with tie-down brackets

Two deck configurations; early with risers and mid without risers

Two underbody configurations

Multiple brake stand options

Multiple truck types

Fully detailed underbodies with brake piping

Free rolling, metal wheelsets

Multiple end cage variants

Suggested minimum radius: 11”

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/rapido-562009a-n-nsc-centerbeam-flatcar-bnsf-brown-single-car-2-freight-cars-928.jpg?v=1776929143
rapido-562015a-n-nsc-centerbeam-flatcar-trailer-train-ttzx-late-flush-deck-single-car
Rapido 562015A N NSC Centerbeam Flatcar: Trailer Train (TTZX) - Late, Flush Deck: Single Car

Specifications

Manufacturer

RAPIDO

Control

N/A

SCALE

N Scale

Railroad

TTX

Paint Scheme

TTX Forward Thinking

N Scale 73’ NSC Centerbeam One of the most overlooked, yet common loads carried by North American railroads is finished wood products! In fact, they both used the same MLW-style switcher body and underframe of the previous S-11 and S-12 designs. Under the hood both used an ALCO 251c prime mover which generated 1,000hp. The major difference between the two versions was that the S-13 rode on “switching style” type A AAR trucks, while the RS-23 utilized road trucks (type B or lightweight truck). British Columbia (formerly PGE) received the first MLW S-13s with an order of three, delivered in January 1959. Canadian National was the largest owner of S-13s, rostering 49 units with the first also arriving in 1959. Of these, 26 were assigned hump service in sets of three units. These were a variety of paint schemes for both BCR and CN before being retired or sold to short lines. Canadian Pacific was the largest owner of the RS-23 locomotives with a total of 34 built between August and September of 1959. These were classified as “Diesel Road Switcher, 1,000hp” (DRS-10c). Initially assigned to Ontario, the RS-23s were reassigned to the Atlantic Region and Saskatchewan. It was not uncommon to see them working in sets of four or five units in northern Saskatchewan on branchline freights. Out in the Maritimes, the RS-23s could be seen in the same capacity, albeit in smaller sets of two to three units. As road switchers, CP's RS-23s often ran in multiple with larger 4-axle and 6-axle freight locomotives. During CP's motive power shortage in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the RS-23s worked hard in mainline freight duty. By the late-1990s, CP retired its fleet but many continue to survive on short lines throughout North America. Gathered by CN and CP from various sources, VIA Rail’s heritage fleet was understandably varied and offered a wide gamut of accommodations to the travelling public. This is the story of that motley fleet, which incorporated pretty much every type of passenger accommodation ever devised in North America. Gone were CN’s black & grey and CP’s silver & action red. Canadian passenger trains were now distinctively blue & yellow! The history of VIA Rail Canada’s inherited passenger fleet will no longer be a mystery shrouded in the mist of misinformation. Never before, such an effort was made to document each of the different types of cars, including new colour floor plans. This book features plenty of pictures of both interior and exterior of every type of car during each car’s history as practicable, as well as a comprehensive roster of every car’s whereabouts and disposition, including a detailed specification sheet. After testing their initial prototype steel van in 1964, CN placed an order for 150 copies from Hawker Siddeley, which were specifically designed for them. The body shells were constructed in Trenton, Nova Scotia, while the final assembly was completed at Hawker Siddeley’s previous Fort William, Ontario plant (now Thunder Bay). The H-S Vans were numbered 79200 to 79349 and delivered in 1967. They were favorites amongst crews on the CN. They featured creature comforts such as: Waugh full-cushion underframes, electric lighting and power via an axle-driven generator, roller bearing trucks, a pair of oil stoves, a refrigerator, hot plate and much more.
