development of the 360 HP WR 360 C 14 diesel locomotive with fluid transmission was the demand made for the Wehrmacht railway facilities to be 'smoke-free'. The reason for this was to eliminate the possibility of locations such as ammunition depots or refineries to be detected from the air as a result of steam plumes generated by a steam locomotive. Thanks to a working partnership that included Berliner Maschinenfabrik AG (previously Louis Schwarzkopf), Orenstein & Koppel as well as Deutz and Voith (only for engine and transmission issues), two prototypes were created within one year which were then comprehensively tested by the German National Railway Locomotive Testing Office during the second half of 1937. The acquired knowledge was then immediately implemented into the further development so that further preliminary locomotives were manufactured as early as 1938. The first of the 245 volume production locomotives entered service at the start of 1939 and were supplied to the army, air force, navy as well as industrial companies. In doing so, the WR 360 C 14 trains were powered by Deutz or MWM engines that were also used in submarines at the time. During the Second World War, the WR 360 C 14 trains made it to many countries throughout Europe and even to North Africa, where some of them also remained. Consequently, several WR 360 C 14 were not only in use on the German Federal and National Railway after 1945; they were also running in countries such as Austria, France and Italy. Now operating under the V36 designation, the locomotives were primarily used in the shunting service and in front of transfer trains in the German Federal Railway. They were also used for suburban passenger transport in the greater Wuppertal, Frankfurt and Nuremberg areas. For this purpose, some locomotives were equipped with a simplified push-pull control or were converted to a one-man control system and equipped with a rooftop cockpit. This ensured that the locomotive staff had an improved view during journeys where the train was pushed. Further noticeable conversions to the Federal Railway locomotives included a larger and more striking cooling water expansion tank on the front end of the engine as well as adjustable radiator shutters. The last of these locomotives, then operating as the 236 range, remained in operation up until 1981. The V36 locomotives operated by the German National Railway were kept in operation for approximately 4 further years. Private railways and industrial companies continued to use some of the locomotives until the end of the 1980s and, even today, it is possible to experience several V36 locomotives in operation on various museum tracks.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/brawa-41656-ho-diesel-locomotive-br-v36-db-digital-extra-w-sound-european-locomotives-881.jpg?v=1776887175
brawa-47618-ho-refrigerator-car-ibdlps383-pschorr-db
Brawa 47618 HO Refrigerator Car Ibdlps383 "Pschorr" DB

Model details

Axle brake frame with brake blocks in wheel plane

Individually mounted brake systems

Individually mounted handle bars

Individually mounted wheelchocks

Individually mounted steps

NEM-standard short-coupling

Metal wheels

True to original frame construction

Wheelsets with inside contours

Perforated car body supports

True to original construction differences

Hacker-Pschorr is a registered trademark.

Info about the original

In 1942, Tnf Berlin (Tnfs38) came into being as a simplified refrigerator car. The basic design was provided by the Glmhs Dresden, as a welded version. In contrast to these, the refrigerator cars were given 300 mm thick insulation and zinc plate inner lining in order to protect the internal wood cladding against moisture penetration. In order to ensure that the doors sealed completely, the double-leaf revolving doors were replaced with sliding doors. However, the most significant change was the vertical panelling combined with the typical white paint of the refrigerator cars. From the mid-1950s onwards, the German Federal Railway (DB) carried out several design modifications and modernisation work on the coaches it had acquired. The maintenance-intensive wheelsets with slide bearings were replaced with roller bearings; car bodies were rebuilt with the same design if their insulating properties were inadequate. As a result, the coaches retained their main dimensions; however, the eye-catching car body frame was now hidden under horizontal panelling, and later even under laminated wood panelling. New refrigerator car developments at DB made it possible for private breweries to purchase a variety of cars from DB and use them for transporting their beer. development of the 360 HP WR 360 C 14 diesel locomotive with fluid transmission was the demand made for the Wehrmacht railway facilities to be 'smoke-free'.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/brawa-41661-ho-diesel-locomotive-wr-360-wirtschaftliche-forschungsges-m-b-h-drg-marklin-ac-digital-extra-w-sound-european-locomotives-883.jpg?v=1776887184
brawa-47619-ho-refrigerator-car-tnfs38-kulmbacher-monchshof-brau-db
Brawa 47619 HO Refrigerator Car Tnfs38 "Kulmbacher Mönchshof-Bräu" DB

Model details

Axle brake frame with brake blocks in wheel plane

Individually mounted brake systems

Individually mounted handle bars

Individually mounted wheelchocks

Individually mounted steps

NEM-standard short-coupling

Metal wheels

True to original frame construction

Wheelsets with inside contours

Perforated car body supports

True to original construction differences

Kulmbacher Monchshof-Brau is a registered trademark.

Info about the original

In 1942, Tnf Berlin (Tnfs38) came into being as a simplified refrigerator car. Fuchs Waggonfabrik A.G. in Heidelberg, for example, built six-axle cars to transport acids at the beginning of the 1940s. The cars had a riveted base frame and riveted bogies and were equipped with a handbrake and a Hildebrand-Knorr freight train brake. The tank was designed as a 10-section welded construction and had a 40 mm thick insulation as well as heating with connections to the end without the handbrake. At the handbrake end there was an intercommunication platform with a brakeman's cab. With a capacity of approximately 40 cubic metres, the tank was com-paratively small. Due to the distribution over six axles, however, the mean axle load was very low and the cars could also be used fully loaded on lines with a lighter superstructure. The tanks could only be filled and emptied from above, as with wagons for transporting acids floor valves were not permitted in those days. With the vehicles which were mostly used by the large factories of the chemical industry on the Deutsche Reichsbahn as private cars, their products were transported between the various locations.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/brawa-48544-ho-tank-car-6-axle-zzd-p-vtg-db-european-freight-cars-869.jpg?v=1776887203
brawa-49323-ho-acid-carrying-car-z-p-gesellschaft-fur-teer-verwertung-m-b-h-duisburg-meiderich-db
Brawa 49323 HO Acid Carrying Car Z [P] "Gesellschaft für Teer- verwertung m.b.H. Although boilers equipped with a rubber cladding were available as early as the 1920s, acid wagons were still generally used in order to transport such goods. In doing so, the wagon construction companies used the undercarriage of the standard layout wagon with a wheel base of 4.00 m or 4.50 m and arranged ten or twelve earthenware containers, each with a filling capacity of between 1000 and 1200 L. The containers were held in place using wood and rubber attachments and the box supports were reinforced using diagonal braces. The inclined floor which improved the ability of spilled cargo to flow away was partially cast using a bitumen compound or was protected with a lead sheet. A wooden walkway can be found between the containers. The containers are sealed using rubber or wooden stoppers. A tall bulkhead protects the personnel on the braking platform which is mandatory on the acid wagons. Many small and large chemical companies used such wagons as private wagons at their respective railway directorate. In the FRG, Degussa donated its last acid wagon to the Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum in 1985. Acid wagons were still used at the DR until 1990 and several clubs still own retained wagons such as those in Aschersleben, Magdeburg and Stassfurt.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/brawa-49323-ho-acid-carrying-car-z-p-gesellschaft-fuer-teer-verwertung-m-b-h-duisburg-meiderich-db-european-freight-cars-543.jpg?v=1776887206
brawa-49816-ho-covered-freight-car-gkh-veb-schlachtwagen-dr
Brawa 49816 HO Covered Freight Car Gkh "VEB Schlachtwagen" DR

Model details

True to original frame construction

Precise replica of board joints

Metal wheels and axles

Multi-part brake system

Individually mounted signal holder

Brake blocks in wheel plane

Perforated car body supports

Precise paintwork and printing

Individually mounted axle box cover

VEB Schlachtwagen is a registered trademark.

Info about the original

Tariff conditions on the one hand and technical conditions on the other resulted in all State railway administrations developing box cars with almost identical dimensions and payloads. The findings from the conversion and operation of the KKd 49 were immediately incorporated into the new design. The result was the KKds 55 wagon type, which was intended for the transport of alumina. The vehicle frame rests on two type 931 Minden-Dorstfeld bogies. Since the basic structure of the powdered goods containers is integrated into the wagons' loadbearing structure, they do not require internal longitudinal beams. Advantageously, this made it possible to pull the container bottoms down a long way over the track. The four silo containers of the same size included an emptying device with a dispersal base in each container. Compressed air was used to unload the cargo from the containers. The small series (only 24 units) that was ordered from the Talbot wagon factory was delivered to the DB from 1954 onwards. As well as transporting alumina, aluminium oxide was also loaded into these wagons. In addition, they were also leased to corresponding companies as private wagons. Due to the small total quantity, the wagons were all taken out of service by 1998.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/brawa-50316-ho-special-freight-car-uacs946-basf-db-european-cars-509.jpg?v=1776887221
brawa-50575-ho-container-car-ucs909-quarzwerke-db-ag
Brawa 50575 HO Container Car Ucs909 "Quarzwerke" DB AG

Model details

Open view between the containers

Individually mounted container cover and valves

Brake blocks in wheel plane

Individually mounted steps

Individually mounted axle brake rod

True to original brake unit

NEM-standard short-coupling

Quarzwerke is a registered trademark.

Info about the original

Together with Waggon Union, Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) developed a new twin-axle container wagon for powdered goods with two standing containers. Westwagon delivered the first 10 wagons to DB for testing in 1953. As they still had a Hik-brake system, these were designated as Kd 54. In addition, they featured a double-hook drive, as did the 150 wagons that followed from Talbot and Westwaggon. Since this led to problems associated with the unique undercarriage construction, all subsequent deliveries were equipped with running gear with single hooks. After only 50 carriages, the container volume was increased to 2 x 13.5 m³. These carriages proved themselves with aplomb - by 1965, a total of 1,232 Kds 54 had been purchased. For lighter powdered goods, 1293 Kds 56 units with 2 x 17.5 m³ containers were built in parallel. The extra volume of 4 m³ resulted in larger containers and wagons that were correspondingly taller. To secure the parked wagons, some of the Kds 54/56 were equipped with a handbrake that could be operated from the platform. Unlike DB's other newly constructed freight cars, whose hand-brake platforms were bolted to the undercarriage, they were directly integrated on these vehicles. In this way, the length over buffers of wagons equipped in such a manner remained unchanged and only the dead weight was increased. Compared with the total number of more than 2,500 wagons built, Kds 54/56 wagons equipped with a handbrake were comparatively rare. With the introduction of the 12-digit UIC number, the Kds 54 wagons were redesignated as Ucs 908, and the Kds 56 as Ucs 909. For many years, both types formed the backbone of the Deutsche Bahn's powder wagon stock. The first reductions in stock occurred in 1967 when 86 wagons were sold. Further sales to EVA and VTG followed in later years. In the 1990s, DB AG relocated most of its wagons to its subsidiary MEG. The remaining DB AG wagons were mostly rented out or used, for example, for the internal transport of traction sand for tractive units. Other than cement, the wagons have also been used to transport several other powdered goods over the years. These include: stone dust, silica sand, kieserite, gypsum, sodium sulphate, Thomas sulphate, sugar, salt and aluminium hydroxide. The wagons were then generally home-based at a railway station.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/brawa-50575-ho-container-car-ucs909-quarzwerke-db-ag-european-freight-cars-845.jpg?v=1776887225
brawa-67256-n-tank-car-4-axle-uia-wasserwagen-sbb
Brawa 67256 N Tank Car 4-axle Uia "Wasserwagen" SBB

Model details

Fine replica of the Y-25 bogies

Precise paintwork and printing

NEM-standard short-coupling

True to original brake unit

Info about the original

In the 1970s, the works of the GDR coach building industry produced almost exclusively for export. The outbreak of the Second World War stopped the further spread of the system, however. In 1949, the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) returned to the "pa" container system (pa: French abbreviation for "porteur am nager") and decided to introduce it on a large scale. While the containers were newly constructed, the DB fell back on underframes of various pre-war wagons that were available in ample numbers, but had suffered war damage to the superstructures. During the conversion work, undercarriages from Omm 34, which were classified as BT(hs) 30, were used in a common number range with BT wagons repurposed from other donor wagons. After the refurbishing of a total of 273 BT 30, the exclusively new construction of container waggons started in 1952. Shortly after being renumbered in Lb(r)s 577, the last refurbished BT 30 waggons were taken out of service in 1971. There were numerous open and closed containers for the greatest variety of cargoes, and moreover, there were special containers for liquids, foodstuffs such as beer, and for the transport of frozen goods. From the end of the 60s, increasingly crowded out by the emerging containers, transport with the "pa" containers ceased at the end of the 90s.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/brawa-50605-ho-container-wagon-bts-30-of-the-db-era-iii-holsten-bier-european-freight-cars-587.jpg?v=1776904016
brawa-48512-ho-brawa-tank-car-zz-p-ba-krupp-drg-era-ii-rheinmetall
Brawa 48512 HO Brawa Tank Car ZZ [P] BA Krupp DRG, Era II "Rheinmetall"

MODEL DETAILS

Metal axle bearing

Multi-part brake system

Brake blocks in wheel plane

Individually mounted axle box cover

Free standing ladders

Individually mounted railing

Individually mounted signs

Road no.: Elberfeld 541 398 [P]

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0753/7023/4136/files/brawa-48512-ho-tank-car-zz-p-ba-krupp-drg-era-ii-rheinmetall-european-freight-cars-621.jpg?v=1776904020
brawa-46786-gauge-h0-set-passenger-db-era-iii-dc-analogue-basic-w-led-lights
Brawa HO 46786 Gauge H0 Set Passenger DB, Era III, DC Analogue Basic w. The DRG (Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft) had set itself the goal of having wagon components manufactured on a cross-company basis in accordance with standardised specifications and conditions, in order to drastically reduce the cost of subsequent maintenance at its own works and to ensure the use of interchangeable components. Against this background, the DRG commissioned the Gesellschaft Deutscher Waggonfabriken (D.W.V.) to develop and deliver the required standard corridor carriages. The specification for the standardised wagons of the “Austauschbauart” meant it was no longer necessary to produce around 1,400 drawings for each individual wagon class. Instead, there was now one basic type that provided the basis for the modified designs, which required approximately 150 drawings each. Starting in 1928, almost 5,500 cars of the various classes BCi-28, Ci-28, CDi-29, Pwi-28, Ci-29 BCi-29, Pwi-29, Bi-29 and Ci-30 were produced for passenger transport in several delivery series. These wagons met the expectations of the DRG and meant that many older state railway cars and related classes could be decommissioned. The running characteristics of these coaches, which were not particularly satisfactory for the passengers, soon earned them the well-known nickname “Donnerbüchsen”. The turmoil of the war years inevitably led to the two-axle standard corridor carriages subsequently finding their way into the inventories of many European railway companies. However, they all shared a common fate – by the late 1960s and early 1970s all of these carriages had been removed from the general maintenance stock.
